Victorian Cent Obverses

Through the Victorian years, the mint used six distinctly different obverse effigies; one provincial effigy and five Dominion effigies.  In his landmark 1960 article, Jack Griffin labeled the five Dominion effigies as obverses 1, 1A, 2, 3, and 4.  The obverse 3 design had two different styles of legends, making seven obverse design variations in all.  My book, Dies & Diadems, discusses these obverse designs in much more detail and demonstrates how they related to each other.
