What's New ! I get a lot of hits on my 1891 and 1892 pages (reached through the coin info page) from collectors who have trouble telling the obverse and reverse varieties apart. At the bottom of each of these pages there are now links to high resolution PDF posters that show examples of each type of obverse and reverse variety for 1891 and 1892. You can open it and use the zoom command up to about 200% in your Adobe reader to blow the posters up and examine the details of each type. I hope this helps you.
Near the bottom of the Coin Info page, I have posted a link to my presentation made last summer at the RCNA syposium. I think it provides a great overview of large cent variety collecting. There are slides in this presentation that should also help with 1891 variety identification. Click here to see the presentation.
Welcome!
For those who do not know me, I am a numismatic researcher and author. I created this website to provide collectors and numismatists with information concerning the Victorian cents of Canada. The main section (Coin Info) of the site provides information about these coins and their varieties. That section also contains downloads of more detailed numismatic articles I have written, as well as links to other great articles from other authors. I have also published multiple books on Victorian cents, which you will find available for sale in another section (Books) of the site. I am very appreciative that my books have been well received and have included downloads to the book reviews. Finally, this site contains a page full of Links to my favorite numismatic websites. Click on the orange links, or the tabs at the top of this page, to begin exploring.
Long before I started doing numismatic research, I was, and still am, an enthusiastic coin collector. Over the past three decades, I have assembled a complete set of Victorian cents in mint state, including all of the various obverse portrait varieties. My collection also includes mint state collections of cents and half cents from Newfoundland and the Maritime provinces. I will eventually post pictures of these beautiful coins on this site, but in the meantime you may view them here:
Victorian Cents
Newfoundland Cents
Maritime Cents & Half Cents
My collecting interests also include European coinage of World War II, primarily focusing on coinages of occupied countries, governments in exile, and countries that disappeared after the war. In the future I will add pages to this site that highlight these fascinating numismatic issues.
If it eventually mirrors my collecting interests, this website will probably grow to be quite eclectic. Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoy it.
